Thomas E. Pickton, Ph.D.

Dr. Pickton earned a B.S. from Miami University in speech pathology and audiology.  He holds an M.Ed. in behaviorally disordered children from Xavier University.  Changing his career to mental health, he completed an M.S. and Ed.S. from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology respectively.  His Ph.D. was obtained from the University of Mississippi in Counseling Psychology.  He has been a licensed psychologist since 1988 and is a member of the American Psychological Association.  Dr. Pickton joined Psychological and Family Consultants, Inc. in 2000.

Specialty practice areas at PFC include bariatric and other surgery evaluations, stress management, anger management, drug and alcohol treatment and education, codependency, psychological personality assessment, adult ADHD evaluations, competency evaluations, pain a licensed psychologist since 1988 and is a member of the American Psychological Association.  Dr. Pickton joined Psychological and Family Consultants, Inc. in 2000.

Dr. Pickton began his career in special education where he was involved in the development and implementation of a national replication project for delivery of services to special needs children and adolescents in rural Nebraska.  He then worked as a child and family therapist at a community mental health center.  Following completion of his doctorate, he completed his predoctoral internship at the Wichita Collaborative Psychology Internship Program.  Postdoctoral internship experience was completed at Child and Adolescent Service Center as head therapist and psychologist for the school-aged day treatment program.  He began private practice in 1986 with Kunstel Grzegorek and Associates in Stow and later started his own practice, Pickton and Associates, also in Stow in 1994.

He has also been a consulting psychologist for a specialized treatment group home for adolescents in Canton since 1989 and did nursing home consultation from 1999 to 2001.

Specialty practice areas at PFC include anger and stress management, anxiety disorders, depression, grief/loss, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), child and adult ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, sexual abuse victims and offenders, sexual addiction, codependency resolution, career counseling and assessment, behavioral health psychology, family therapy, couples therapy, specialized group therapy, personality assessment, bariatric therapy evaluation, and fitness for other specialized surgery assessments.  Dr. Pickton works with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families and primarily employs cognitive behavioral and interpersonal  psychodynamic therapy approaches.
